Terpenes
Also known as: myrcene, limonene, pinene, linalool
What it is
Terpenes are the molecules behind every plant's smell — pine trees have pinene, lemons have limonene, lavender has linalool, hops have myrcene. The hemp plant produces dozens of terpenes, and the specific blend varies by strain and growing conditions. That's why a Kentucky-grown hemp tincture smells different from an Oregon-grown one.
What's interesting about terpenes for CBD users is that they work synergistically with cannabinoids. Myrcene is associated with muscle relaxation in early research; pinene with anti-inflammatory effects; limonene with mood support; linalool with calm. None of these effects are strong on their own at the doses present in a CBD bottle — but in combination with CBD, the entourage effect is real and measurable.
botanCBD's full-spectrum oils preserve the natural terpene profile of our Kentucky and Ohio hemp through gentle CO2 extraction. Our peruvian lime flavor adds a small amount of real-lime essential oil (which is largely limonene), which is why the flavor feels matched to a bright daytime dosing routine rather than an evening one.
Where it's in our line
- Organic CBD Oil Oral Drops - Full Spectrum
Full-spectrum preserves the natural terpene profile of the hemp flower itself — the strongest terpene presence in our line.
- Organic CBD Oil Oral Drops - THC Free Broad Spectrum
Broad-spectrum retains most of the terpene profile after the THC removal step. Flavor variants (lime, mint) add their own real essential oils on top.
- Arnica Infused Organic CBD Salve Stick
Topical application uses both hemp terpenes and arnica's botanical compounds for the targeted-recovery effect.
FAQ
Are the terpenes in botanCBD natural or added?
Natural — preserved from the hemp flower itself through gentle CO2 extraction. Our flavored bottles (peruvian lime, fresh mint) add real essential oils to those naturally occurring terpenes for taste, not added isolate terpenes.
Do terpenes get me high?
No. Terpenes are non-psychoactive at the doses present in any CBD product.
Why does the natural flavor smell so plant-like?
Because that's what hemp terpenes smell like. The natural-flavored bottle is the closest to the unmodified plant profile. If the smell is too much for you, peruvian lime or fresh mint cover it cleanly.
