CBG (Cannabigerol)
Also known as: cannabigerol, the mother cannabinoid
What it is
CBG is one of the precursor cannabinoids in the hemp plant. Early in the plant's growth cycle, CBG appears in higher concentrations; as the plant matures, most of the CBG converts into CBD, CBDA, THC, and other downstream cannabinoids. By harvest time only trace amounts of CBG remain — typically less than 1% of the total cannabinoid content.
What's interesting about CBG for daily-use CBD products is the entourage effect. The small amount of CBG that survives in a full-spectrum extract is part of the cannabinoid + terpene synergy that makes full-spectrum CBD feel "different" from CBD isolate at the same CBD dose — often subtly more noticeable. botanCBD's full-spectrum line preserves the CBG that naturally develops in our Kentucky and Ohio hemp.
Research into CBG's individual effects is still early-stage but encouraging — early studies look at potential applications in inflammation, neurological support, and gut health. Most of what's published is preclinical (animal models or lab studies); large human trials don't exist yet at the scale they do for CBD.

FAQ
Will CBG get me high?
No. CBG is non-intoxicating, like CBD. It's not psychoactive at any dose currently studied.
Does botanCBD sell a CBG-only product?
No — we focus on the cannabinoid blends that the hemp plant naturally produces. CBG isolates exist but they sit at the higher-price end and the research base is still developing. We prefer to deliver CBG inside the natural full-spectrum profile, where it works synergistically with the other cannabinoids.
Is there CBG in broad-spectrum CBD?
Trace amounts, often lower than in full-spectrum because the broad-spectrum process strips THC and can reduce some other minors. Every batch is third-party tested and the cannabinoid panel is on the COA.
