CBD:THC Ratio

Also known as: CBD to THC ratio, THC to CBD ratio, Cannabinoid ratio

Definition

A CBD:THC ratio is the amount of CBD in a product compared with the amount of THC, written as two numbers, so 20:1 means twenty parts CBD for every one part THC.

CBD:THC Ratio shown alongside related glossary terms: THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), Total THC.

You will see ratios mostly on state-licensed cannabis products, such as tinctures, capsules and edibles from dispensaries. Common labels run from 1:1 (equal parts) to 20:1 (mostly CBD with a small, measured amount of THC). Some labels flip the order, so 1:20 would mean the reverse. Always check which cannabinoid is written first. A ratio only describes balance, not strength: a 20:1 product with 20 mg of CBD and 1 mg of THC is a very different product from one with 200 mg of CBD and 10 mg of THC. The milligrams per serving tell you the strength.

Hemp CBD oils rarely use ratio labels, because the THC side is so small. Federal law defines hemp as containing no more than 0.3% delta-9 THC, and full-spectrum oils carry only trace amounts, while broad-spectrum oils have THC removed. A ratio with zero on the bottom is meaningless, so a THC-free oil is simply labeled by its CBD content. If you shop a hemp brand, the more useful question is how much CBD is in each serving and what the lab report says about THC.

The way to read ours is the COA, not a ratio. Our Full Spectrum oil carries trace THC under 0.3%, and our THC-Free Broad Spectrum oil reads ND or below the limit of quantitation on its batch report. Each batch COA lists CBD and THC in milligrams, and you can request yours or find them at /coas. If you want an exact ratio, divide the CBD figure by the THC figure on that report. We do not make a ratio claim on the bottle, and we do not know how a ratio on a dispensary product compares with a hemp oil you buy online.
