CBD for an Active Lifestyle: Training Days, Rest Days, and Topicals
Our picks for active lifestyle
Why this works
The question runners, lifters and weekend athletes ask us most is when to take it. Our answer is boring on purpose. Pick one serving, take it at the same time after your last session of the day, and keep taking it on rest days. A routine is easy to judge. A one-off dose before a long run is not.
Training days and rest days get the same oil serving. What changes is the topical. On a training day, our Arnica-Infused CBD Salve Stick goes on the spot you worked, such as calves, shoulders or the back of the neck after a long drive to the meet. It is for skin only, never on broken skin. The stick currently reads sold out, so check the product page before planning around it.
We do not make recovery promises. The research on CBD and exercise is early, mostly small trials, and results are mixed. Sleep, food, water and rest days do the heavy lifting. CBD is one small part of a week, and we would rather you know that than expect more.
CBD + BCP (beta-caryophyllene)
BCP is a peppery terpene found in black pepper, cloves and many hemp extracts. It is not a cannabinoid, but researchers study it alongside CBD because it interacts with the same body signaling system in lab work. That research is early. We do not publish a BCP count for each batch, so ask for the COA if terpene content matters to you.
How to take it for active lifestyle
For the oil, most adults start at 10-25 mg under the tongue in the evening after training, held for 60 seconds before swallowing. On our 1,500mg bottle a full dropper is about 50 mg, so start with a quarter to a half dropper. Keep the same serving on rest days for at least a week before adjusting. Use the topical as needed on the spot, never on broken skin. Start low, go slow, and talk to your doctor first, especially if you take medication.
FAQ
Should I take CBD before or after training?
We suggest after, in the evening, as part of a fixed routine. We have no data showing a pre-workout serving works better, and taking it right before hard effort adds a variable you cannot judge. Whichever you choose, keep the time the same for a week or more and start at 10-25 mg.
Can tested athletes use CBD?
Pure cannabidiol is not on the prohibited list, but USADA (page read October 2026) says it is nearly impossible to extract only CBD, so products may carry THC and other cannabinoids that are prohibited. If you are tested, use our THC-free broad-spectrum drops, ask for the batch COA at /coas, and check with your governing body first. We are not a sport-certified brand.
Is full-spectrum or broad-spectrum better for an active lifestyle?
Broad-spectrum if you are tested or want zero THC. Our full-spectrum drops contain trace THC under 0.3%, which is fine for many people but not for anyone subject to testing. Full-spectrum is the lower price per mg at 1,500 mg. Broad-spectrum at 6,000 mg is cheaper still at about $0.0275 per mg.
Can I use the CBD topical on a shift or competition day?
A topical stays on the skin, so many people use one during the day. Apply it to clean, unbroken skin only. Our Arnica-Infused CBD Salve Stick is total-spectrum with trace THC, so tested athletes should check with their governing body first. It currently reads sold out.
Do I take CBD on rest days too?
Yes, if you are running a routine. Keep the same evening serving so you can tell what you are comparing. Skipping rest days makes the pattern harder to read.
How is this different from your recovery page?
Our recovery page covers the oil-plus-topical pairing. This page is the whole week: training evenings, rest days, topical timing and testing rules.
