Why a senior cat is a different question
An older cat is small, often on at least one daily medication, and slower to clear things from the body. Cats also metabolize many compounds differently from dogs. That is why we do not write this as a smaller dog page. The cautious path is a pet-made product, a low starting serving, and a veterinarian who knows the whole list of what your cat takes.
Research on CBD in cats is limited. PetMD's overview of CBD for cats (checked October 2026) says the same: science specific to cats is limited, long-term effects and drug interactions are still being learned, and CBD is not a substitute for veterinary care. We agree with all of it.
Why Furry Friends is the one we recommend
It is broad-spectrum with 0.0% THC, veterinarian-formulated, in organic MCT oil at 16.7 mg/mL, third-party tested every batch, with the batch report on request or at /coas. PetMD (checked October 2026) also tells cat owners to avoid human CBD products and to choose very low or no THC. Our human oils are not for cats, including the THC-free ones.
It is $25 and there is one strength. That suits a cat: you dose by weight, so a small animal uses a small amount from the same bottle.
Starting low, and what to ask your vet
Our product page gives a starting range of 0.1 to 0.25 mg of CBD per pound of body weight, once a day, and its table lists about 1 mg for a 10 lb cat at the low end. For an older cat, start at the bottom, give the same amount at the same time for two or three days, and watch appetite, energy, and litter box habits. The dose calculator below does the math. Your veterinarian's number beats any chart, including ours.
Bring the bottle and the medication list. Ask whether anything your cat takes is cleared by the liver, since CBD can affect how the liver handles some drugs. If your vet says no, the answer is no.
The bacon flavor, honestly
The flavor is AAFCO-approved bacon. Many cats like it. Some do not, and an older cat with a picky appetite may be one of them. We cannot promise yours will take it.
Try a drop on a wet food spoonful your cat already likes, not the whole bowl, so a refusal does not cost a meal. On food it takes longer to work than straight in the mouth. If your cat turns it down twice, stop and ask your vet. Forcing a senior cat is not worth it.
FAQ
Is CBD safe for senior cats?
Veterinary sources such as PetMD (checked October 2026) call CBD generally safe for cats when the dose is set by a veterinarian, with limited research and unknown long-term effects. For a senior cat, use a THC-free pet product, start low, and get your vet's approval first.
How much CBD should I give my senior cat?
Our product page lists a starting range of 0.1 to 0.25 mg of CBD per pound once a day, with about 1 mg for a 10 lb cat at the low end. For an older cat, begin at the low end and let your veterinarian set the final number.
Can I give my cat human CBD oil?
No. Human oils can contain THC, which is toxic to cats, and they are not dosed for animals. Our full-spectrum oil has trace THC, and even our THC-free human oil is not made for cats. Use the pet bottle.
My cat takes medication. Can I still try CBD?
Only with your veterinarian's say-so. CBD can interact with how the liver handles some drugs, and a senior cat is more likely to be on several. Show your vet the label and the batch report before the first drop.
Will my cat eat bacon flavored CBD oil?
Some will and some will not. Put a drop on a small spoonful of wet food your cat already likes. If it refuses twice, stop. We do not make an unflavored pet oil.
How do I know the oil is THC-free?
Ask for the batch report. Ours is broad-spectrum at 0.0% THC and third-party tested every batch. Send the batch number from the bottle, or look at /coas, and read the THC line yourself.
