Pick by use case

Pick CBD Isolate if…
  • You want the cheapest CBD per milligram
  • You need precise dosing for a specific application
  • You want zero risk of trace THC
  • You're flavoring/cooking with CBD and don't want any taste
Pick Full Spectrum if…
  • You want the strongest possible entourage effect
  • You're not drug-tested
  • You prefer whole-plant products
  • You want the closest experience to the natural plant

Why isolate exists

CBD isolate is the most processed form of CBD. After extraction, the oil is winterized, distilled, and crystallized to remove everything except CBD molecules. The result is a fine white powder that's about 99% pure CBD.

Isolate is cheap to manufacture in bulk and easy to dose precisely. Most commercial 'CBD gummies' use isolate. It's also the safest form for drug-tested professionals because there's literally no THC in it (verified by the COA).

Why full spectrum is more popular

Most quality CBD oil sold today is full or broad spectrum, not isolate. The reason is the entourage effect: research (and a lot of user experience) suggests whole-plant extracts produce stronger effects per milligram of CBD than isolate does.

If 25mg of full spectrum CBD produces the same effect as 50mg of isolate, the higher per-mg price of full spectrum often disappears in practice.

FAQ

Is CBD isolate safe?

Yes. Isolate is purified CBD; it's no different chemically than the CBD in full-spectrum oil. The difference is what's NOT in isolate — terpenes, minor cannabinoids — that contribute to the entourage effect.

Why doesn't botanCBD sell isolate?

We focus on full-spectrum and broad-spectrum products that retain the plant's natural compounds, because we think they produce better experiences for most users at most doses. If you specifically want isolate, plenty of brands sell it.
