Updated How we edit these guides
Weightlifters fit criteria: tested meets (usapl, ipf), training day vs rest day.
Our top pick

Organic CBD Oil Oral Drops - THC Free Broad Spectrum

THC removed, with a batch COA that reads ND or <LOQ. The 500mg bottle is about 17 mg per full dropper, so a serving is easy to measure. Most adults start at 10–25 mg. The 1,500mg bottle costs less per mg once your serving is settled.

Does CBD fit a lifter's routine?

Lifters ask the same thing: is there a place for CBD between training days? We do not claim it builds strength, and we do not claim it fixes anything. What we hear is smaller. People want something simple to take in the evening, after the bar is racked and the work is done.

Research is early. One German placebo-controlled crossover study (Isenmann and colleagues, 2021) gave a single CBD serving to 16 well-trained participants after intensive squat training and found small differences in muscle-damage markers and squat performance at 72 hours. The authors themselves wrote that more data are needed. We read that as an open question, not an answer. Checked October 2026.

Tested meets: what USAPL and the IPF say

USA Powerlifting's anti-doping rules incorporate the WADA Prohibited List and say it will generally follow it. It also says it is not a WADA signatory and may take exceptions. Under WADA rules CBD itself is not prohibited, but THC and other cannabinoids are banned in competition. USADA says plainly that many CBD products carry traces of THC. We read the USAPL rules PDF in October 2026. We could not load its cannabis wording on a page, so check the current text.

The IPF's own anti-doping Q&A warns that supplements can be contaminated and that athletes are strictly liable for what is in their sample. It advises avoiding them altogether. That is the honest ceiling on any CBD advice. If you compete in a tested federation, THC-free is the minimum, and the safest answer is to ask your federation in writing.

A training-day and rest-day routine

Pick one serving and keep it the same on training days and rest days, so you know what you are taking. Start with half a dropper of the 500mg bottle, about 8 mg, and move toward 10–25 mg over a couple of weeks if you want to. Hold the drops under the tongue for a short while before swallowing. Do not stack a new serving on a heavy testing week.

For the sleep window, many people take their serving 30 to 60 minutes before bed, in the same slot every night. Dark room, phone away, same bedtime: that does more than any oil. Talk to your doctor first if you take medication, and especially if you are cutting weight or using other supplements.

Protein shakes: the honest answer

Our drops are hemp extract in organic coconut-derived MCT oil. We do not market them as nano CBD. Oil floats. In a shake, some of it sticks to the shaker wall and the lid, so you cannot be sure what you drank. That is why we say to take it under the tongue first, then drink your shake.

If you like the habit of mixing it in, a spoonful of food with some fat in it is a better carrier than a thin shake. You can also measure by dropper and use the Natural flavor if mint or lime in a shake bothers you.

Also worth considering

Arnica Infused Organic CBD Salve Stick

A gym-bag stick for the skin over elbows and shoulders, with arnica and 750mg of total-spectrum hemp extract. It currently reads sold out, so check the page for restock. Skin only, never on broken skin. It contains trace THC, so it is not the pick if you worry about a tested meet.

FAQ

What is the best CBD for weightlifters?

For most lifters, THC-free broad-spectrum oil taken under the tongue. It keeps THC out of the picture for tested meets, it has a batch COA, and it is easy to measure. Our THC-free drops start at $35 for the 500mg bottle. We cannot promise any training result.

Is CBD allowed in USAPL or IPF meets?

WADA does not list CBD itself as prohibited, but it bans THC and other cannabinoids in competition, and USA Powerlifting follows the WADA list with possible exceptions. Rules change, so confirm with your federation. Choose a THC-free product with a current COA, and know that nobody can guarantee a test.

Can I mix CBD oil into my protein shake?

You can, but oil floats and part of it clings to the shaker, so you will not know your serving. We suggest taking the drops under the tongue, then drinking the shake. Our drops are not marketed as nano CBD.

How much CBD should a lifter take?

Most adults start at 10–25 mg. A full dropper of the 500mg bottle is about 17 mg. Start low, hold the serving steady for two weeks, and talk to your doctor if you take medication.

Should I take CBD before or after training?

We do not claim a best time. Many people choose the evening, in the same slot each day. Do not try a new serving on meet day or the day before.

Is the arnica salve stick good for shoulders and elbows?

It is a skin-only stick made with arnica and total-spectrum hemp extract, and it contains trace THC. It currently reads sold out. We make no claims about what it does for a joint, and it is not the pick if you compete in a tested federation.
