Pick by use case

Pick 250mg Pet CBD Oil if…
  • Your pet is a cat or a dog under about 15 lb and you want a bigger, easier amount to measure
  • You and your vet want to move up in small steps
  • You are happy to pay more per mg for that finer control
  • Your pet is new to CBD and you want the gentlest concentration on the shelf
Pick 500mg Pet CBD Oil if…
  • Your dog is 20 lb or more, where a half dropper or less covers a normal serving
  • You want the lower price per mg: $0.05 against about $0.13 in our check
  • You want one bottle to last months, not weeks
  • You already measure small amounts with a marked dropper and are comfortable with it

The math in one line

Take the milligrams on the label and divide by the bottle size. A 30 mL bottle of 250mg oil is 250 ÷ 30, about 8.3 mg per mL. A 30 mL bottle of 500mg oil is 500 ÷ 30, about 16.7 mg per mL. That per-mL number is the one that matters when you measure, because a dropper holds a volume, not a dose.

So a 500mg bottle does not mean a stronger serving. It means the same serving fits in half the liquid. A 5 mg serving is about 0.6 mL from the 250mg bottle and about 0.3 mL from the 500mg bottle. Check the size too: the same 500mg label in a 15 mL bottle is 33 mg per mL, twice as concentrated again. Every figure on this page assumes 30 mL.

Which bottle for which pet

Our pet page uses a weight-based starting point from veterinary literature: about 1–2 mg of CBD per 10 lb of body weight a day, often split across two servings. Always begin at the low end, and talk to your veterinarian first, because they know your pet's age, weight and medications and we do not. The table above turns that range into mL for each bottle.

For most dogs from about 20 lb up, the 500mg bottle is the simpler pick. A 50 lb dog starting at the low end needs about 0.3 mL, a bit under half a dropper. For a 10 lb cat the same math gives only 0.06 mL on our bottle, a sliver of a dropper that is hard to measure the same way twice. At 8.3 mg per mL that cat's amount is 0.12 mL, still small but twice as easy to see.

How long a bottle lasts and what it costs

Using the same 50 lb dog at 5 to 10 mg a day, 500 mg lasts roughly 50 to 100 days and 250 mg lasts roughly 25 to 50 days. For a 10 lb pet at 1 to 2 mg a day, either bottle outlasts the date printed on it, so go by that date and not the math. A bottle you cannot finish is not a bargain.

On price, we checked one 250mg competitor. Suzie's CBD Dog Drops, 250mg, 1 oz, were $32.99 with a list price of $36.29 on thatpetplace.com (checked October 2026). That is about $0.13 per mg. Our 500mg pet oil is $25, which is $0.05 per mg. That is a retailer's page, not the brand's own store, and prices move, so check before you buy.

Where botanCBD sits, plainly

We make one pet oil: Organic Pet CBD Oil Drops, 500mg, broad-spectrum with 0.0% THC, veterinarian-formulated, AAFCO-approved bacon flavor, 16.7 mg per mL, $25. It is in the Furry Friends line. We do not make a 250mg bottle.

If you have a very small cat and your vet wants a lower concentration, a 250mg bottle from another brand may be the better tool. Ask for the batch lab report before you buy it. If you pick ours, ask your vet how to measure small amounts, and see how pet CBD differs from human CBD before sharing a bottle between species.

FAQ

What is the difference between 250mg and 500mg CBD oil for pets?

Concentration. In a 30 mL bottle, 250mg oil has about 8.3 mg of CBD per mL and 500mg oil has about 16.7 mg per mL. The 500mg oil is twice as concentrated, so a serving takes half as much liquid. It is not a stronger serving.

Is 500mg CBD oil too strong for a dog?

Not by itself. The serving depends on your dog's weight and your vet's advice, not the bottle. A 50 lb dog starting at the low end of 1–2 mg per 10 lb needs about 5 mg, which is about 0.3 mL from a 500mg, 30 mL bottle. Start low and talk to your veterinarian.

Should I use 250mg or 500mg CBD oil for a cat?

For a small cat, a 250mg bottle can be easier to measure, because the amount is about twice the volume of the same serving from a 500mg bottle. A 10 lb cat at 1 mg is about 0.12 mL from 250mg oil and 0.06 mL from 500mg oil. Ask your vet which they prefer.

How many mL of 500mg pet CBD oil should I give?

Start with your veterinarian's number. As a rule of thumb from veterinary literature, a start is about 1–2 mg per 10 lb a day, often split. On our 16.7 mg per mL oil, 5 mg is about 0.3 mL. Begin at the low end and go up slowly, only with your vet's guidance.

Which is cheaper, 250mg or 500mg pet CBD oil?

The 500mg bottle is cheaper per mg. In our October 2026 check, a 250mg dog oil at thatpetplace.com was $32.99, about $0.13 per mg. Our 500mg pet oil is $25, which is $0.05 per mg. Compare mg per dollar and read the lab report, not the front label.

Does a bigger bottle mean a bigger serving?

No. Bottle size changes how long it lasts. Concentration, in mg per mL, changes how much liquid makes a serving. A 15 mL bottle with 500 mg is twice as concentrated as a 30 mL bottle with 500 mg, so always divide mg by mL.

Does botanCBD sell a 250mg pet CBD oil?

No. We make one pet oil: 500mg in 30 mL, 16.7 mg per mL, broad-spectrum with 0.0% THC, $25. If your vet wants a lower concentration for a small cat, another brand's 250mg bottle may fit better.
