Pick by use case

Pick botanCBD if…
  • You want a whole-plant extract, with or without trace THC, and no isolate
  • You want the lowest price per mg at larger sizes
  • You want a short label: hemp extract, organic MCT oil, essential oil
  • You buy from a small Cincinnati store that answers its own questions
Pick Medterra if…
  • You specifically want isolate, with no other plant compounds
  • You want gummies, capsules or pet chews from the same brand
  • You want a middle size such as 1,000mg
  • You prefer a citrus or chocolate mint flavor

Spectrum philosophy: isolate-first versus whole plant

Medterra's own spectrum page describes isolate as CBD pulled away from every other part of the hemp plant, THC included, leaving a single compound. Its isolate oil page calls the product 99%+ CBD with organic MCT oil (https://medterracbd.com/products/isolate-drops, checked October 2026). That is a real, honest product, and for some people it is the whole point.

We went the other way. Our two oils start from hemp extract. The full spectrum drops keep trace THC under 0.3%. The THC-free broad spectrum drops have the THC removed, and the lab report reads ND or below the limit of quantitation. If you want to read how the three types differ, start with our isolate vs broad spectrum guide.

We will not tell you whole plant is better for you. Research on that question is early and mixed. It is a choice about what you want in the bottle.

Price per mg: what Medterra's own store lists

We read Medterra's product data directly (https://medterracbd.com/products/isolate-drops.json, broad-spectrum-drops.json and full-spectrum-drops.json, checked October 2026). The isolate oil lists at $39.99 for 500mg, $55.99 for 1,000mg and $132.99 for 3,000mg, each at 30 servings. Its broad-spectrum oil is $64.99 for 1,000mg and its full-spectrum (CBD + THC) oil is $89.99 for 1,500mg. Those are list prices. Medterra also runs subscriptions and sales, so what you pay can differ.

Our prices: 500mg full spectrum $30 and 1,500mg $65. Broad spectrum is $35, $70, $110 and $165 for 500, 1,500, 3,000 and 6,000mg. At 1,500mg, our full spectrum is about $0.043 per mg and Medterra's full spectrum is about $0.060. At the top, our 6,000mg broad spectrum is about $0.0275 per mg and Medterra's largest isolate is about $0.044.

Medterra sells a 1,000mg size and we do not. We also cannot compare the two bottles by mL, because the Medterra pages we read gave servings, not volume. Compare mg per dollar, and compare the lab reports too.

Hemp origin and testing

Our hemp comes from our own Kentucky and Ohio farms. Every batch is third-party tested, and the batch report is on request or at /coas.

Medterra's certificates-of-analysis page says it provides third-party lab testing on all products. It also says its products are not tested for herbicides such as glyphosate, because it follows the Kentucky Department of Agriculture's organic farming practice (https://medterracbd.com/pages/certificates-of-analysis, checked October 2026). We read that as a Kentucky link. We did not find a farm-by-farm origin statement for the isolate oil, so we will not write more than that.

Whichever brand you choose, open the report for the batch in your bottle and check the cannabinoid panel against the label.

Flavors, range and the family question

Our oils come in Natural, Fresh Mint and Peruvian Lime, and the flavor is real essential oil. Medterra's broad-spectrum oil lists Citrus and Unflavored, and its full-spectrum oil lists Citrus and Chocolate Mint. Its isolate page lists no flavor choice.

Medterra's range is much wider than ours. Its store also carries gummies, capsules, topicals and pet products, and we make four products in total. If you want one brand for several formats, that is a fair reason to pick it.

On family: Medterra's About page calls its team a family (https://medterracbd.com/pages/about, checked October 2026). We are a family-owned Cincinnati store. We could not confirm Medterra's ownership from its pages, so we make no claim either way.

Where Medterra wins, and where we do

Medterra wins on range, on a 1,000mg middle size, on a true isolate oil and on flavors like Chocolate Mint. If isolate is what you want, we do not make it, and Medterra does.

We win on price at the larger sizes, on a whole-plant-only lineup, and on a short label. Our broad-spectrum oil is THC-free for anyone who wants no THC at all, and our full spectrum is the lower-cost whole-plant oil. Start low, go slow, and talk to your doctor if you take medication.
