Pick by use case

Pick Flavored (Fresh Mint or Peruvian Lime) if…
  • This is your first bottle and you do not know how the hemp taste will sit with you
  • You take it straight under the tongue and want something pleasant to hold there
  • You want a flavor that comes from a real essential oil and not a lab-made flavor
  • You will take it every day and want the habit to be easy
Pick Unflavored (Natural) if…
  • You want the shortest ingredient list we make: hemp extract and MCT oil, nothing else
  • You stir your drops into coffee, a smoothie or food and do not want a second flavor in it
  • You do not mind, or even like, an earthy hemp taste
  • Mint or citrus does not agree with you

What flavored CBD oil actually is

A CBD oil is two things at its simplest: hemp extract and a carrier oil. Ours uses organic coconut-derived MCT oil. A flavored oil is that same pair plus a flavoring. In our Fresh Mint and Peruvian Lime bottles the flavoring is real essential oil, mint or lime. Natural has none.

The flavoring is there for taste only. It does not add CBD and it does not take any away, so a 500mg bottle holds 500mg of CBD in any flavor. We do not know of any reason the flavor would change how a serving works, and we are not going to claim one.

What unflavored CBD oil tastes like

Hemp tastes like hemp. Releaf UK, in a guide we checked in October 2026, calls the taste of unflavoured CBD tinctures "earthy, musky, or herbal" and says most people prefer the flavoured kinds, especially newer users. Amberwing Organics (NJ Farms) describes its all-natural oil on its Leafly page, checked October 2026, as "wild, nutty, earthy or grassy" and says some people enjoy it right away while others find it grows on them.

That matches what we hear. We would add one honest caveat: how strong the hemp taste is depends on the extract and the carrier, so two Natural oils from two brands can taste different. We can describe our own as plainly hemp. We cannot tell you how it will land on your tongue.

What "natural flavoring" on a label tells you

Flavored oils from other brands often list "natural flavoring" and nothing more. Sunset Lake CBD does this on its 3,000mg full spectrum tincture page on Leafly, checked October 2026: organic MCT oil, full-spectrum hemp extract, and natural flavoring for the mint and citrus flavors only. That is a clean list, and it is also one that does not say what the flavoring is made from.

We name ours: real essential oil of mint or Peruvian lime. If a brand will not say what its flavoring is, you can ask it, and you can ask for the batch lab report too. Ours are at /coas.

Which to buy first

If you are new and want the least friction, buy Fresh Mint. Most people stay with a habit that tastes fine, and a taste you dread is a good reason to skip a day. If you already know you like earthy flavors, or you plan to mix the drops into coffee or food, buy Natural.

Because the price is the same, you are not paying extra for the flavor and you are not saving money by skipping it. Pick on taste and on how short you want the label. Whichever you choose, start low and go slow: most adults start at a serving of 10 to 25 mg, which is well under one full dropper of the 1,500mg bottle, and it is worth talking to your doctor first.

Spectrum is a separate choice from flavor. We cover it in full spectrum vs THC-free for beginners. If you want no THC at all, the THC-free broad spectrum drops come in Fresh Mint, and that is where we would send a first-timer who wants the easiest taste.

FAQ

What is the difference between flavored and unflavored CBD oil?

Flavored CBD oil has a flavoring added to the hemp extract and carrier oil. Ours is real essential oil, Fresh Mint or Peruvian Lime. Unflavored oil has none, so it tastes like the hemp, which is often described as earthy or grassy. The CBD per bottle is the same.

Does flavored CBD oil have less CBD than unflavored?

No. The flavoring is a tiny added ingredient. A 500mg botanCBD bottle holds 500mg of CBD in Natural, Fresh Mint or Peruvian Lime, and the price is the same.

What does unflavored CBD oil taste like?

Mostly like hemp: earthy, nutty or grassy. Other brands describe their natural oils with the same words. Some people like it and some do not, and the exact taste varies by brand and extract.

What is the flavoring in botanCBD oils made of?

Real essential oil, mint for Fresh Mint and lime for Peruvian Lime. Natural has no flavoring. The rest of each bottle is hemp extract and organic coconut-derived MCT oil.

Is flavored or unflavored CBD oil better for coffee?

Unflavored is the safer pick, because it does not add a second flavor to your coffee. Mint in coffee is a matter of taste, and some people like it. Try one serving before you commit to a bottle.

Which CBD oil flavor should a beginner buy first?

Fresh Mint, if you want the easiest taste. Natural, if you want the shortest ingredient list or you plan to mix it into food. Both cost the same at botanCBD, and you can start at a small serving either way.
