Peppermint Essential Oil (Fresh Mint flavor)

Updated How we edit these guides
Peppermint Essential Oil (Fresh Mint flavor) appears in Full Spectrum, THC Free Broad Spectrum.

What it is

Peppermint essential oil is the concentrated oil from the leaves and flowering tops of Mentha piperita, a natural cross between water mint and spearmint. It is usually steam-distilled. The oil is made up mostly of menthol and menthone, two compounds that give peppermint its cool, sharp smell and taste. The FEMA flavor panel lists peppermint oil as a generally recognized as safe (GRAS) flavoring, and it is the same kind of ingredient that goes into mint gum, toothpaste and candy.

We use it for one reason: taste. Hemp extract in MCT oil tastes earthy and a little bitter, and a lot of people do not want that under the tongue every day. Our Natural flavor has no flavoring at all, so you taste the hemp. Fresh Mint adds real peppermint essential oil, and Peruvian Lime adds lime oil. We do not publish how much goes in, because we have not measured it on every batch and we would rather not hand you a number we cannot back up. It is a flavoring, so the amount is small, and the oil is there for the taste, not as an active ingredient.

Be honest about the trade-offs. Mint is a strong flavor, and if you dislike mint, pick Natural or Peruvian Lime instead. Peppermint oil is very concentrated on its own, so never swallow or apply straight essential oil because a CBD bottle has some in it. The NIH's NCCIH page on peppermint oil (checked October 2026) notes that the oil can cause heartburn or dry mouth in some people, that allergic reactions are rare, and that menthol should not be put on or near the face of an infant or small child. If you are pregnant or nursing, on medication, or buying for a child, ask your doctor first.

FAQ

What is in mint CBD oil?

In ours, it is hemp extract, organic coconut-derived MCT oil and real peppermint essential oil for flavor. The peppermint oil is there for the taste. Natural has no added flavor, and our Fresh Mint comes in both the full-spectrum and the THC-free broad-spectrum oral drops.

Is peppermint essential oil safe to swallow in CBD oil?

Peppermint oil is listed as a GRAS flavoring, and a small amount of it is common in food. Pure essential oil is a different matter: it is very concentrated and should not be taken straight. Some people get heartburn or dry mouth from peppermint oil, and allergic reactions are rare. If you are pregnant, nursing or on medication, ask your doctor before using it.

Can I give mint CBD oil to my dog or cat?

No. Never give a human flavored oil to a pet. Our Fresh Mint drops are made for people. Dogs and cats have their own product, the Organic Pet CBD Oil Drops, which is made for them and flavored with bacon. Ask your veterinarian before giving a pet any new product, and keep essential oils of all kinds away from animals.

Does the mint flavor change how the CBD works or what is in the lab report?

The flavoring does not change the CBD content, but it is an extra ingredient on the label, so the bottle holds hemp extract, MCT oil and peppermint oil. Every batch is third-party tested, and the batch COA is on request or at /coas. Look at the cannabinoid results there. The lab report for the oil is where you check what the batch contains.

Which flavor should I pick if I do not like mint?

Pick Natural if you want no flavoring at all and do not mind an earthy hemp taste, or Peruvian Lime if you want something bright. All three flavors come in the same bottles and the same strengths. Fresh Mint is best for people who want the hemp taste covered.
